Reading Goal Setting
Our goal in the sixth grade is to continue growing as readers! Students set quarterly goals to improve their reading and no matter where they're starting out, the goal is to grow. Reading is such a crucial piece to student success in school and in life. Therefore, reading is strongly emphasized in the classroom and encouraged at home.
Reading goals are set each quarter. Reading point goals are based on the students reading ability (See STAR Reading Test) and reading for 30 quality minutes each day giving each student an individual point goal. All students also have a quiz average goal of at least an 85% to demonstrate they understand what they read. At the end of each quarter students receive two test grades for their reading goals- 1) Percent of points met and 2) Quiz average. Reading is important and two test grades per quarter can greatly impact students' language arts grades. To check reading progress log-in to Renaissance Learning on the Library Services page.
