Students have been working hard as they read Sarah, Plain and Tall. The images below display samples of student work from the past two weeks. The “BioPoem Shells” are original poems written by students about themselves. We chose to write our poems in the shape of shells because Sarah, a main character in our story, is from Maine and loves the sea. The illustrations the students created convey Sarah’s arrival to the prairie. Students analyzed sections of the text to locate the key details that would help them picture Sarah’s arrival, such as the yellow bonnet seen in many of the illustrations. What fabulous work!
