Students will begin typing their personal narratives this Monday, October 1st. This language arts update is a bit lengthy, but please take the time to read the important information about our first writing piece.
Bring a flash drive. I encourage students to bring a flash drive in order to save their work and especially if they have access to a computer at home to work on their narrative away from school.
Come prepared. Over the weekend, students should complete their funnel introductions and concluding paragraphs. These two pieces of their personal narrative should be ready when they come to class on Monday. We are limited with our access to computers and it so important that students come prepared and with high quality work. If students are not prepared for class, they should expect homework lunch. If issues continue, it may be necessary to assign after school detention.
Please take a look at your child’s writing. I’ve attached the scoring guide for the personal narrative- this has been revised from the original- and the format of our personal narrative. If you or your child gets writer's block, please use this as a resource.

Strive for perfect attendance. I want to encourage perfect attendance for this upcoming week of school. We have a tight schedule with our access to computers, so each day we’re here is crucial for the stages of the writing process. The following is an outline for the week of October 1-5 in language arts class:
Monday- No reading log/Begin typing draft
Tuesday- Complete/print draft.
Wednesday- Begin self-assessment & make revisions on post-it notes
Thursday- Begin peer assessment & make revisions on post-it notes
Friday- Revise typed copy of draft/Print final copy
Personal narratives are due no later than Monday, October 8th. Please note that for each day a writing assignment is turned in late a letter grade will be deducted.
Stay Tuesday for after-school computer access. I have reserved the computer lab after school until 5pm. If your child would like to stay to complete his or her typing please send a transportation note to school. Please stay for Parent Involvement Night which runs from 5:30 to 7 at SCMS.
Expect homework. Students may not complete everything in class. It may be necessary to take work home to complete. For this reason there is no reading log this week.
That’s a lot of information! Just to recap…
1. Bring a flash drive!
2. Come prepared!
3. Strive for perfect attendance this week!
4. Stay after school Tuesday until 5pm. Bring a transportation note to stay after.
5. Expect homework.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. C
