Personal Narrative Quiz 1 Vocab |
Happy Labor Day Weekend! I hope you've enjoyed your four days off from school. I'm sure all my students have been busy reading multiple volumes of books. :) This week language arts class will consist of taking the MAP Reading Test on Tuesday, September 4th. Students have already completed the math portion of the test in their math class and will also take the language usage portion in the near future. The results will be sent home once all students have completed the test in grade 6 through 8. The remainder of the week will be dedicated to exploring narrative elements in film. Students will be exposed to story telling in film in order to improve their story telling in writing. Students will examine the elephant graveyard scene in Disney's "The Lion King" to explore and analyze sequence of events, use of dialogue, sensory detail, and character feelings. By the end of the week, they will write a first person account from the point of view of Nala or Simba about the experience in the elephant graveyard using these narrative elements in their writing. This week will also expose students to new vocabulary terms for the unit. A PDF is attached containing a spreadsheet with the first 10 vocabulary words and their definitions. Students will also be taking notes on these terms to take home. A vocab quiz will most likely take place early next week and a date will be communicated to students this week. This should be an exciting week!
