The Summer Enrichment Program is in full swing! My students are on their way to being Active Readers and Active Writers. This means taking an active, intentional role in how they read and write. Please review the goals and vocabulary words your child is striving to learn (located to the right). They have been working very hard and I am proud of their efforts! | GoalsStudents are challenged to ask themselves: How can I be an Active Reader and Active Writer? Be an Active Reader: 1. Think about what I’m reading. 2. Ask questions about what I’m reading. 3. Identify key details in the text. 4. Connect what I read to other text, the world, & myself. Be an Active Writer: 1. Think about what I’m writing and why I’m writing it. 2. Restate the question, so that I’m focused. 3. Answer all parts of the question, so that I’m thorough. 4. Prove it, so that I use key details and/or connections to support my answer. 5. Review my writing, so that I’m clear and mistake-free. | Vocabulary WordsAlarmed Ayuh Bleating Bonnet Dune Dusk Eerie Feisty Gully Hearthstone Homely Mica Milled Pesky Petticoat Prairie Primly Pungent Scuttling Sly Squall Stern Suspenders Velvet Whickering Wisp |
