By the end of the first week of school students should be able to answer the following questions: How can I be successful in Mrs. Burge's language arts class? What does "being a student is a job" mean?
The main focus is for students to know and believe they can be successful in class! We will be covering a lot of information, but having fun as we quiz each other and learn about one another. My goal is to learn my 126 students' first names by Friday. If I don't know a student's name on Friday, August 14th, I will give him or her $1. (We'll see how I do this year. I've never had to pay in the last 5 years!)
The following is an outlook for the week of August 12-14th:
Wednesday- Review Classroom Guide & Summer Reading Challenge
Thursday-Writing Activity: A Letter to Myself & Practice Procedures
Friday*- Mrs. Burge's Name Game & Prepare Binder Tabs *Due by Friday: Parent Homework (Students will pick up this form at Open House or the first day of school) and Binder Tabs (All students should bring 5 tabs to class today. Please let me know in advance if this is not possible.)
Upcoming Deadlines:
Binder Tabs: 5 tab dividers due on Friday, August 14th.
Summer Reading Challenge: Accelerated Reader quizzes must be completed by the school day on Friday, August 21st.
I'm looking forward to the year and getting to know my students!
Wishing everyone a great first week,
Mrs. Burge
