This past week wrapped up the short story unit and now, we enter into the novel study! In this unit, students will examine the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. While some students may have read this novel before, they will certainly be challenged in different ways. We will conduct a close reading of the novel to understand how the author uses literary tools and apply those tools to our own writing. For examples, students will explore allusion, foreshadowing, irony, motif, and subplot in Holes.
The following is an outlook for the week of January 11-15:
Monday- Library Day. Students receive new reading goals for 3rd quarter. Parents, please sign this form and return by Wednesday.
Tuesday- Intro to novel study.
Wednesday- Holes novel and activities, chapters 1 and 2. Due: Parent signature on AR goals.
Thursday- Holes novel and activities, chapter 3.
Friday- Due: Vocab unit 8 quiz and homework.
Have a safe weekend!
