This past week concluded the short story unit with student presentations. It's been great to see student growth from where they were at the beginning of the unit to now!
With the end of this unit, the upcoming week begins the next: Expository Writing & Novel Study. In this unit we will use the novel Larger-than-Life Lara by Dandi Daley Mackall to strengthen our skills in analyzing text and clearly communicating in our writing with textual evidence. This is one of my all time favorite books, and I hope it will be that for the students as well.
The unit looks to answer these questions: 1. How does focus, support, and clarity relate to writing? 2. How can I use expository writing to convey an idea or demonstrate knowledge? Students will be able to effectively answer these questions as they accomplish the four main goals of the unit:
Unit Goals:
1. I can identify the focus & support in a variety of texts.
2. I can explore the concepts of expository writing through my own reading & writing practice?
3. I can demonstrate focus, support, and clarity in my own writing.
4. I can effectively convey an idea and demonstrate my knowledge in my writing through focus, support, and clarity.
The following is an outlook for the week of January 26th-30th:
Monday- Library Day/Wrap up Live Scoring of RWW
Tuesday- Intro to Expository/Novel Unit
Wednesday- Begin Larger-than-Life Lara, Close reading of chapters 1 & 2.
Thursday- Chapters 3 & 4.

Have a great weekend everyone!
